The project music compass focuses on the
world of music. Artists fill genres and styles of music, people listen
to it and develop taste and identifications. Music is still one of
the best ways to express emotions and moods either as listener or
performer. With the today's possibilities of connecting people and interests things come closer together. People become more and more their own performer. Collecting music, creating play lists and developing it's unique music taste is becoming the trend of the time. Music Compass approach is to provide a platform for people to exchange individual interests and to find people with similar tastes. Different technologies help to combine people's home set-up and online access. The gathered information of the people's listening behaviour and taste find in similarity and neighbourhood calculations a location and a sphere full of neighbours and artist. To make this information accessible and to explore the complexity in a visual and interactive environment is the result of music compass. | Visualisation of
an user's profile and it's relation to other users with similar (neighbourhood)
and different music taste. The user's top ten artists display the
area of taste. The distance between the focused user and his related
users is done by a neighbourhood calculation. Furthermore it shows
the activity of the users (transparency) and it's amount of listened
song (size). Explore: On mouse over it shows the neighbours name and profile data (last login, songs loved & hated & listened & skipped & added). Change display mode between random and spiral and move on. Change the factor of the users' profile size with the slider. Navigate: On click of a user it loads in the data of this user and it's neighbour-hood plus it's top artist. A input field to find specific user and artist. On click of a top artist it jumps to the ARTIST SPACE and displays it's content. |

| Visualisation of
an artist, it's similar artist and it's biggest fans. The size of
an artist shows the total amount of songs people have played from
this artist. The distance of a fan from the artist represents the
ratio of it's listened songs to this artist and the total amount of
listened songs. The size of a fan represents the size of it's profile. Explore: On mouse over of a fan shows the fans name and profile data (last login, songs listened from artist & listened all & ratio). Change display mode between random and spiral and move on. Change the factor of the fans' profile size with the slider. Navigate: On click of a similar artist it loads in the data of this artist and it's fans and similar artist. A input field to find specific user and artist. On click of a fan it jumps to the USER SPACE and displays it's content. |

| Visualisation of
the landscape of music based on the users tastes. The created profiles
provide the information for the calculation of the neighbourhood of
each user. The generated information takes place for the calculation
of the artist similarity. Furthermore representative artists and music
genres/styles have helped to create a reference map. The music map is used to localize users' taste in the landscape of music, it's current position (song it's listening to) and a path of his last 10 listened songs. Furthermore it is used to localize all users position of Last.fm and Audioscrobbler. Explore: Some development steps of this part of the project see at the right side |
